Matkailualan ammattilaisten huippuseminaari 23.9.2010 Vantaalla

Kaksi matkailualan ammattilaisten seminaaria, HAAGA-HELIAn sähköiseen liiketoimintaan keskittyvä Matka alkaa verkosta ja Haaga-Perhon Maailman Matkailupäivä, järjestetään yhtenä tapahtumana torstaina 23.9.2010 Rantasipi Airport Congress Centerissä Vantaalla.
Koko päivän kestävässä tapahtumassa on kansainväliset huippupuhujat ja uudenlaisia vuorovaikutteisia workshopeja. Teemoina ovat matkailun tämän päivän menestystekijät sähköinen liiketoiminta, tuote- ja palveludesign sekä elämyksellisyys.

Osallistujat saavat yhdellä osallistumisella tapahtuman, jossa on matkailun menestystekijät kokoava alkuohjelma sekä kaksi valinnaista ohjelmaa, joissa syvennytään joko sähköiseen liiketoimintaan tai matkailun ajankohtaisiin kysymyksiin. Tapahtumassa on jälleen yhteinen loppuohjelma sekä verkostoitumisjuhla illan päätteeksi.

Yaro Starak is one of the leading social media guru’s out there on the wide world of the web. Last weel he published a blog post that should interest all our seminar guests.

The title of the post is: Social Media Mistakes: Are You Forgetting Your Fundamentals?

It is a great post with references to the past technoligies, the Internet hype of the late 90’s and much more. Really gives a good insight on the entire field.

At the end of the post there is a section about the right way to use social media. And there he sums up brilliantly the core essence of it all. Read it for yourself:

Social media are communication channels, marketing techniques, just like all the techniques that have come before. Some will last longer than others, and they can represent huge opportunities, but don’t see them as the bricks to build your business upon – they are merely the roads to drive on to get where you want to go, you have to build your vehicle using much stronger stuff.

Beautifully put. There really is no easy way to success. These free tools that are at our disposal nowadays are just that: tools. Technology. Alone, they do nothing.

It is all about how you use those tools. What you should and shouldn’t do. And that’s the focus of our seminar. Not the technology, but how your business can use it to build success.

Is Google wave the next big thing?

Most certainly it is one of the major things happening this fall. Maybe only time will tell what will happen with it. The idea seems interesting, good and frexh, but will it work? Will it transform our perception on communication like Facebook did?

And most importantly: can you plan to success with a media that requires people to embrace it as their own?

Co-creation and crowdsourcing, nothing but big words?

Co-creation and crowdsourcing are hot topics at the moment. Wikipedia defines crowdsourcing as:

“the act of taking tasks traditionally performed by an employee or contractor, and outsourcing it to an undefined, generally large group of people or community in the form of an open call.”

But really? Can people and customers always know it best? Certainly the phenomena has its strong points, but int he worst case scenario it resembles a situation where doctors ask patients what is wrong with them and not the other way around.

Actually this doctor example is good. YES. You need to ask your customers what they want and what they need. And you definately must listen. As a good doctor. But after that you need to use your own expertise and put it to good practise when you design your product or service. You can not, and should not blindly listen to the people. The old habit of having and open mind and listening is key. But we also need our experts in addition to masses.
